Michael C. Widmer, MD, FACC, received his MD degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1990. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Cardiology at Dartmouth from 1990 – 1996. He has been Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease since 1996.

Dr. Widmer, an Oregon native, has practiced in Bend since 2001. He specializes in and has additional Board Certification in Nuclear Cardiology, (a non-invasive imaging technique for evaluating coronary blood flow and cardiac function), and Echocardiography (a non-invasive ultrasound imaging of the Heart). He also has a special interest in Heart Failure and is passionate about Heart Disease Prevention. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and served as Governor of the Oregon Chapter of the ACC from 2006-2009.He served on the Board of Governors Executive committee 2008-2009 and on the National Clinical Quality Committee in 2009. He remains active in the various Advocacy, Educational and Quality Initiatives of the ACC.

Dr. Widmer is responsible for the development and implementation of St. Charles’ Heart One acute heart attack (STEMI) program and served as director from 2003 to 2013. The Heart One program is recognized as a model program at both the State and National levels and has been emulated across the country. During his tenure as OR ACC Governor, he initiated the process of linking every hospital in the State to a STEMI network ensuring all Oregonians access to state of the art acute heart attack care.

Dr. Widmer and his wife, Jane, have been married 25 years and are the proud parents of three young men. All are outstanding nordic ski racers with Bend Endurance Academy and have competed in multiple Junior National races. Michael, 23, is a senior at the College of St. Scholastica and is majoring in pre-med. Jack, 20, is a sophomore at the University of Creighton where he is majoring in Physics. Teddy, 18, will also attend the College of St. Scholatica in the fall. He plans to major in Business.

As a family, they enjoy all outdoor activities that Central Oregon has to offer, especially fly fishing. An accomplished master athlete, Dr. Widmer is a regular in the local race scene.
