Dr. John Ramsey grew up in Rochester, NY but developed deep roots to central Oregon by spending every summer on his grandparents’ farm outside Madras. After graduating from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN with a B.A. in American History, he spent the next several years living in Northern / Southern California and Philadelphia, during which time he completed a Master’s Degree in American History at UC Irvine as well as his pre-med studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Attending medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans was in hindsight a momentous decision as he left 4 years later a doctor, husband, and father! After completing his MD/M.P.H. degrees at Tulane, he returned to Oregon where he and his wife, fellow internist Monica Ramsey, have spent the last 13 years raising their two daughters, all the while stealing away to central Oregon and the family farm whenever they had a chance. He is thrilled to return full circle to his childhood roots and make new memories with his family in central Oregon.
Dr. Ramsey’s goal as a physician is to provide the best possible medical care in a manner that is consistent with his patients’ values and priorities. He feels this is best achieved through developing long lasting relationships by advocating for patients in both sickness and health, as well as encouraging people to be active participants in their own care. He believes that although medication can play an important role in a person’s health if needed, it should never be a substitute for a healthy diet and lifestyle.
In his free time, Dr. Ramsey enjoys spending time with family and friends (preferably outdoors) as well as playing guitar and a little mandolin. His family are avid skiers and hikers and are excited to continue that tradition now in beautiful central Oregon.
