Dr. Willem Speed is a full spectrum family physician excited to care for the wonderful people of Bend. He was born and raised in Wisconsin before traveling back and forth between Utah for his education. This began with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Education with a Chemistry minor from the University of Utah. Medical School then followed at the University of Wisconsin where he completed a Path of Distinction in Public Health and was part of the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine (WARM). Returning to the mountains he then completed family medicine residency at the University of Utah where he received resident teacher of the year award from the Society for the Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) upon graduation.
Dr. Speed has many areas of interest within family medicine, but more than any of those he truly enjoys meeting patients where they’re at. He has known he wanted to be a family doctor as long as he’s been interested in medicine, seeing this field as perfectly poised to truly help patients find what they need to be healthy. He has gained significant experience working with LGBTQ+, Rural, and Native populations and will continue to seek out ways to empower these communities.
When outside the clinic, Dr. Speed loves nothing more than recreating in the mountains from skiing to mountain biking to hiking; It’s fair to say the Upper Mill Clinic location’s proximity to Mt. Bachelor is a bonus. Closer to town he loves volleyball, paddle boarding and soccer. He is coming to Bend with his wife Katie, their dog Fern and their cat Moose to start this exciting new adventure.
